The Way: Powerful Relationship
Acts 1:4-5
Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:1-4
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
1. The Holy Spirit
us into the body of Christ (Salvation).
Titus 3:5
he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:13
…But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
2. The Holy Spirit fills and
our lives
us and producing fruit in us and through us.
1 Corinthians 3:16
Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
2 Corinthians 3:16-18
But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
Galatians 5:16
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
3. The Holy Spirit
us to share our faith.
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Power to be a witness is not just about
, it’s about
for the lost, and the courage to share.
4. The Holy Spirit
gifts to us to encourage others.
1 Corinthians 12:7-11
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
Every gift has a
and can flow through each of us without fanfare on a regular basis even when we don’t realize it.
- The Holy Spirit Baptizes us into the body of Christ (Salvation).
- The Holy Spirit fills and transforms our lives guiding us and producing fruit in us and through us.
- The Holy Spirit Empowers us to share our faith.
- The Holy Spirit distributes gifts to us to encourage others.
When we accept what Jesus did on the cross (reconciliation), the Holy Spirit begins the transformation in our lives allowing us to:
Walk in a new community.
Walk in wisdom and fruit.
Walk in a powerful compassion for those who are lost.
Walk in His gifts to encourage others.
Galatians 5:25
Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
