Redeeming Grace

Today’s Scripture
Ruth 3-4

If you have lost your amazement at God’s Grace, you have failed to understand what Grace is.

Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

Ruth 3:1 Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you? 2 Now is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maids you were? Behold, he winnows barley at the threshing floor tonight.

Without a

, we all would be facing spiritual bankruptcy and be without hope forever.

Ruth 3:3 Wash yourself therefore, and anoint yourself and put on your best clothes, and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.

Ruth 3:4 It shall be when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies, and you shall go and uncover his feet and lie down; then he will tell you what you shall do.” 5 She said to her, “All that you say I will do.”

Ruth 3:9 He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth your maid. So spread your covering over your maid, for you are a close relative.”

Ruth 3:10 Then he said, “May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. You have shown your last kindness to be better than the first by not going after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 Now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you whatever you ask, for all my people in the city know that you are a woman of excellence.

Ruth 3:12 Now it is true I am a close relative; however, there is a relative closer than I. 13 Remain this night, and when morning comes, if he will redeem you, good; let him redeem you. But if he does not wish to redeem you, then I will redeem you, as the Lord lives. Lie down until morning.”

Ruth 4:1 Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there, and behold, the close relative of whom Boaz spoke was passing by, so he said, “Turn aside, friend, sit down here.” And he turned aside and sat down. 2 He took ten men of the elders of the city and said, “Sit down here.” So they sat down. 3 Then he said to the closest relative, “Naomi, who has come back from the land of Moab, has to sell the piece of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech. 4 So I thought to inform you, saying, ‘Buy it before those who are sitting here, and before the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if not, tell me that I may know; for there is no one but you to redeem it, and I am after you.’” And he said, “I will redeem it.” 5 Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of the deceased, in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance.” 6 The closest relative said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, because I would jeopardize my own inheritance. Redeem it for yourself; you may have my right of redemption, for I cannot redeem it.”

Romans 8:3 For what the Law could not do…

Romans 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

1 Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The

reveals our sin but it cannot save us from it.

The Law condemns us but

covers us.

Four things were required in order for a kinsman to redeem:
He must be near of kin. Which Boaz was to Ruth and what Jesus is to us..
Jesus was a close Kinsman because of His incarnation, when He put on flesh and came to live “with us.”

He must be able to redeem. He must be free of any calamity or need of redemption himself.
Boaz was a man of integrity and Jesus was perfect and sinless.

He must be willing to redeem
Boaz was willing and so is Jesus

Redemption was completed when the price was completely paid.
Boaz paid the price to redeem Ruth at the town gate

Jesus paid the price to redeem us on the old rugged cross.

“The world may call me by many names, but the only voice that matters calls me redeemed.”

  • Discuss how God’s Grace can become something we miss or just forget about.

  • How does the LAW reveal our sin and discuss how it cannot save us.

  • Discuss the 4 Requirements of a Kinsman Redeemer and how Jesus was qualified for each.

  • Describe a “180” that God’s Grace did in your life

3. Pray Together
