Be Still and Know That I am God

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah. There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn. The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has made desolations in the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! - Psalms 46:1-10 (NKJV)

It is biblically accurate to know that no matter what is raging around you, God is a place of

and a source of .

Option one: God is speaking to His enemies.
Option two: God is speaking to His people.

The people of God need not stress when

is around.

The enemies of God need not believe that they are

—no matter how many times they feel like they have defeated Him or His people.

The promise of God’s protection comes only to the

of God.

God’s

assures His people of protection from their enemies.

The

and of God are not absent even when there are storms and stress around us.

The presence of God is the

-maker for the people of God.

We become the people of God through the

work of Christ on the cross.

We are the people of God as we stand on the promises of God and dwell in the

of God.

We are the people of God as we

Him in Spirit and in .

The people of God

still and let the Lord fight for our battles.

As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!” Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. - Exodus 14:10-16 (NIV)

Next Steps

  1. Consider your response to difficulty. Do you seek to solve things or pursue His presence?
  2. How do you prioritize the presence of God daily?
  3. Where are you seeing the hand of God at work in your life?
