Message Notes

“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of his brothers shall return to the people of Israel. And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. And he shall be their peace.” —Micah 5:2-5

“And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” —Luke 2:7

“And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’” —Luke 2:8-11

The Story of the Shepherds

How Did the Shepherds Respond to this invitation to Come and See Jesus?

  • They were filled with fear

“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” —Luke 2:12

  • They acted in faith

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’ When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.’ And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.” —Luke 2:13-16

“Peace among people is only possible when humanity is living at peace with God and submitted to His Kingdom rule.” —Tony Evans

“Then he said, ‘I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.’” —Matthew 18:3-4

  • They became believers

“And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them.” —Luke 2:17-18

  • They told everybody

“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.” —Luke 2:19

  • They became worshippers.

“And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.” —Luke 2:20

How Will You Respond to Jesus?

  • Come and See the Savior

“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’” —Matthew 11:28-30

  • Go and Share What You Have Seen and Heard

Mark 16:15 - And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.
