The Thermostat and The Thermometer- People are either thermometers or thermostats. They will merely reflect the climate around them, or they will set it. Influencers develop
Why do we often remain thermometers, just imitating what everyone else is doing? What helps some break free from this tendency to blend in?
Luke 6:46-69
Ephesians 4:11-15
How do we react when the wave hits? Or the Wind? Do we simply react in the moment, or do we have a foundation? Do we operate out of a deep set of values or non-negotiables? Or do we decide in the moment what seems right?
As we mature (Eph 4) and build a foundation (Luke 6) we allow the word of God and His values to work deep within and become our values and our foundation
Be honest with yourself, do you “act” or “react” more often in your life? Are you a thermostat, who acts based on principles and values you embrace, or do you react to situations like a thermometer, reflecting the temperature in the room?
Do you have a set of core values?
i. Values can be defined with simple words that describe what you deeply believe.
ii. Values are words that describe what you live by or what you want to live by.
iii. Values are beliefs that define who you are and are guidelines for your big decisions.
iv. Values are stronger than thoughts or opinions. They are ideals of you at your best.
v. Values are the inner based principles that will fuel the direction of your life.
Action Step: Think of some words that could make up your core values. Write them down and then write a statement of what that word means to you.
