HIS-story - Jesus and You
December 21, 2023

Series Key Truth - This Christmas season, Jesus wants to integrate HIS-story into your story.

The “HIS-story” of Christmas is Fulfilled in Four Understandings:

Matthew 1:20-23
“… Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

Understanding #1 – Jesus is a Son

Mark 1:1 - The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God…

Understanding #2 – Jesus is a Servant

Mark 10:33-34
“We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”

Mark 10:35-37
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
“What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”

Mark 10:41-45
When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,

Understanding #3 – Jesus is a Sacrifice

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Understanding #4 – Jesus Can be a Savior

Matthew 1:21 - She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

Luke 2:12 - Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you;

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
