Prayer for Our Workplaces and Coworkers

Day Three

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
—Colossians 3:17

Think for a moment about your workplace. Maybe it looks traditional—you commute to and from an office each day and spend your hours with colleagues or customers. Maybe your workplace is your home—a parent caring for your children or a remote worker on Zoom all day. Maybe it’s a car—driving to and from appointments, or making deliveries. Maybe it’s a classroom, where you stand at the front of the room as a teacher or sit as a student. Your workplace isn’t coincidental—it’s a strategic location in which God has placed you as an ambassador. Whatever you do—are you working in the name of the Lord Jesus? Do those you encounter throughout your day see Jesus glorified through your work and your words?

God, you created us to faithfully work, to cultivate, and to create. Our work points to you as our Creator. Help us to see our workplaces the way that you see them. We want to work in the name of the Lord Jesus—work heartily, knowing that our work is first for you. Let us be known as faithful, diligent, trustworthy workers. Open our eyes to see opportunities to share the good news of Jesus Christ with those around us. Give us love and compassion for our coworkers, and give us the courage to speak boldly with grace and truth. Let our lives and our work be a faithful representation of you, King Jesus. Amen.

As you go through your day:
1. Give thanks to God for the work he’s given you to do today.
2. Consider your task list in light of Colossians 3:17—how can you work at each task on the list in the name of the Lord Jesus?
3. Ask the Lord for an opportunity to share the gospel message in your workplace today.
