GETTING TO KNOW YOU
- What is a movie you could watch over and over?
LET’S GET STARTED
Read 1 Corinthians 15: 51-58, Psalm 57: 4-10
The word steadfast in Greek means to be seated, firm, and planted. In the context of 1 Corinthians 15, what does it look like to you for a believer to be steadfast?
The words steadfast and consistent go hand in hand; consistent means unchanging in nature, standard, or effect over time.
Hebrews 13: 8 says, “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Why is it important, and how does it help you as a believer to know that God is unchanging in nature?
Knowing that as people we depend on things in our lives to be consistent (running water, electricity, the sun rising and setting, etc.), why is important to nonbelievers that you, as a believer, remain consistent and steadfast?
LET’S GO DEEPER
1. The first step to becoming steadfast in our faith is to know our new identity in Christ. What scriptures come to your mind when it comes to your identity in Christ?
The second step to becoming steadfast is learning how to remind ourselves of our new identity. Read Psalm 1. Verses 2 and 3 say he meditates day and night… He shall be like a tree. The word meditate means to mutter, to make a sound. Think about your week so far, what things did you find yourself muttering, and are they in alignment with your identity in Christ?
The name Simon means “to waver like the grass”. The name Cephas or Peter means “a stone”. Until the resurrection of Christ, Peter found himself acting like Simon, wavering in his faith, specifically when Jesus
allowed Himself to be arrested. This caused Peter to be greatly disappointed, which led to him following Jesus from afar and eventually led to him denying Jesus. Why was Peter so disappointed? Describe a time when disappointment tried to get you to waver in your faith. Even through disappointment, what are some ways we can remain steadfast?
LET’S LIVE IT OUT
David said in Psalm 57: 7, “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.” David’s conditions were not good when he wrote Psalm 57. This is a great lesson on how our praise should not be wavered by our conditions, but anchored from a steadfast heart. Along with being a people of praise, there are also several other characteristics that go along with our new Identity in Christ. For example, being steadfast in Prayer, the word, living righteously, etc. What area in your Christian life do you find yourself wavering in right now, and what are some steps you can take to be more steadfast in that specific area?
