Main Idea: BECOMING SOMETHING BETTER
Check-In (Highs & Lows) 15 min
A great, quick way to catch the highlights of what is happening in the lives of the people in your group is to take turns quickly sharing the “highs & lows” of your week. High: What was your biggest highlight since we last met? Low: What was the low point during this time?
Settle-In (Ice-Breaker) 10 min
What is the difference between rest and being lazy?
Dig-In (Scripture) 35 min
1. Read 1 Corinthians 6:18. The Greek word for flee is φεύγετε (pheugete) and means to escape or vanish. Therefore we are told to completely VANISH from the face of any kind of sexual immorality. How has not vanishing from sexual immorality impacted your life in the past or present?
2. Read 1 Corinthians 6:19. What does it mean to you that your body is a temple of God? How might that understanding impact your faith walk, even outside the realm of sexual immorality?
3. Read 1 Corinthians 6:20. What is the most expensive item that you have ever purchased? With paying such a huge cost, how did you treat that item? How would you or how have you reacted when anyone tried to mistreat that big ticket item?
4. The price for you was Christ on the cross. God’s only Son laid down his life for your freedom. How does seeing this high price for you change your perspective of how you treat your body/your freedom?
5. Read 1 Corinthians 6:11. What does it mean to be sanctified? The Greek word for sanctified is ἡγιάσθητε (hēgiasthēte), which means to consecrate or something that is hallow (think hallowed ground).
Gear-Up (Application) 15 min
1. What are some practical ways that we can glorify God with our bodies? What are some disciplines that we can put into place to make sure that we are living these out?
2. As Bryan asked this past weekend, “How do we become who God is calling us to become when we have a past?” Think of some specific steps forward in your faith walk and discuss them.
Step-Up (Homework)
What are one or two disciplines that you need to incorporate in your daily walk to truly treat your body as a temple (hallowed ground)? Work on those this next week and report back to the group next week with how it went. Be open and vulnerable.
