Introduction: Did you grow up in a church that recognized the church calendar?
Read: Ruth 4:1-6
DISCUSS
1. Have you previously thought of Ruth as a romance story or a rescue? How does thinking of it as a rescue change what it teaches us?
2. Have you ever said no to a deal or an agreement because something about it might have corrupted or endangered your status?
3. The majority of our life is lived in “ordinary time.” Do you have a hard time seeing God in ordinary time?
4. Can you look back at an ordinary time and see now how God quietly was working? How do you see his fingerprints in hindsight?
5. Did you start this year feeling like you weren’t doing enough? That you needed to be more extraordinary? Has this sermon series changed your perspective? If so, how?
6. Have you ever thought of Jesus as your guardian redeemer, a more perfect Boaz? What are aspects of Boaz that Jesus lived perfectly?
PRAY:
Lord, thank you for the book of Ruth and for you for your work in “ordinary time.” May we see your fingerprints in our lives and others and trust you regardless. Amen.
