Some people claim that worship just isn’t their thing. But the truth is, we all worship something because that’s how we were made.

Worship is not limited to a segment of

.

But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. 21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. 23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. 25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. —Romans 1:18–25 (NLT)

What do you see about worship in this text?

Worship isn’t limited to a segment of

.

How do you often regulate worship to a segment of your life?

What would it mean for you to worship all the time?

There is something called “

worship.”

How would you define true worship?

“Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet. 20 So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?” 21 Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. 23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. 24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” —John 4:19–24 (NLT)

What is this passage saying about worship?

To worship is spirit and truth is about being authentic in my whole-self to the one that is worthy of my worship.

Worship is our response, both personal and corporate, to God for who he is, and what he has done; expressed in and by the things we say and the way we life.

It matters what you worship because you reflect what you worship.

What will you be reflecting this week?
