Keep Moving Forward With Faith in God

I. The Definition of Faith

Hebrews 11:1, NKJV
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:6, NKJV
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

II. The Demonstration of Faith

1. Faith Keeps Moving Forward Even When You Don’t Know What

Isaiah 55:8-9, NIV
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

2. Keep Moving Forward Even When You Don’t Know Where

Hebrews 11:8, NKJV
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Genesis 12:1, NIV
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.”

Genesis 11:31, NLT
One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there.

Genesis 20:13, NLT
“When God called me to leave my father’s home and to travel from place to place, I told her, ‘Do me a favor. Wherever we go, tell the people that I am your brother.’”

Psalm 37:23-24, NLT
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.

3. Keep Moving Forward Even When You Don’t Know When

Psalm 13:1-2, NLT
O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

Psalm 69:3, NLT
I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me.

Hebrews 11:9-10, NKJV
By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Hebrews 11:13, NKJV
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

James 5:7-11, NIV
Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!  Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we
consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Job 42:12-13, NLT
So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. He also gave Job seven more sons and three more daughters.

Job 42:16-17, NLT
Job lived 140 years after that, living to see four generations of his children and grandchildren. Then he died, an old man who had lived a long, full life.

Psalm 39:7, NKJV
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.

Lamentations 3:26, NIV
It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.

Micah 7:7, NLT
As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.

Psalm 130:5, AMP
I wait for the Lord, I expectantly wait, and in His word do I hope.

Habakkuk 2:3, NKJV
For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Hebrews 10:23, NKJV
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
