Prophecies

context
In Psalm 16, David asks the Lord for protection, trusting in God as a safe place from enemies and evil. He confesses that apart from the Lord he has nothing good. This psalm exudes David’s joy, using words such as “delight,” “pleasant,” “glad,” “rejoices,” “joy,” and “pleasures.” David celebrates his relationship with God. Because the Lord is with him always, David feels secure, even in the face of death. This is because his eternal destiny is assured. His celebration foreshadows the Messiah, who would conquer death and experience resurrection (BibleRef).

Psalm 16:7-11 (NIV) says:
7I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, 10because you will

me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see . 11You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with pleasures at your right hand.

Q1 What does it mean when someone’s body doesn’t see decay?

Fulfillments

Mark 16:1-7 (NIV) says:
1When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the

?” 4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. 6“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has ! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”

Q2 In verse 6 we read that the crucified has risen? In which verse in Psalm 16 we see this most important event in all history be prophesied a thousand years in advance?

Acts 2:22-33 (NIV) says:
22“Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23This man was

to you by God’s plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by him to the cross. 24But God him from the , freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25David said about him: “‘I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 26Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope, 27because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, you will not let your holy one see decay. 28You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’ 29“Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.

In this passage we hear the apostle Peter preach in the first Christian church in Jerusalem. The whole Gospel is summarized.

Q3 In verse 25 we read the prophecy by king David, referring to Psalm 16:8. What does “with him at my right hand” mean? Where is Jesus now (Acts 2:33)?

Q4 Please, list all headlines of Peter’s sermon. And write a P-character where you discover fulfilled prophecy.
