Serving starts in the mind

adopt the mind-set of Jesus—Philippians 2:5 (VOICE)

Thinking like a servant

In order to reach the level of servanthood that God desires for me, I must

serving God.

God affirms some unique qualities of those He calls servant

Five attitudes of a servant

…Live with His attitude in your hearts.—Philippians 2:5 (VOICE)

3. Servants focus on their assignment, not what others are doing

between God’s servants does not make sense; it’s illogical

  • Same team, same ultimate goal to make God look good, not ourselves

  • We are all by God and have been given different assignments

That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original. —Galatians 5:26 (MSG)

  • When we are focused on serving God, we don’t have time to be critical of others

A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home. She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said. But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. “Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand.” The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing —Luke 10:38-41 (MSG)

    How Do I Stay Focused

It is not my job to evaluate the master’s servants

Who are you to criticize someone else’s servant? The Lord will determine whether his servant has been successful. —Romans 14:4 (GW)

It is not my job to defend myself against criticism

    4. Servants base their identity in Christ

    based on in God.

The Father had put everything in Jesus’ control. Jesus knew that. He also knew that he had come from God and was going back to God. So he got up from the table, removed his outer clothes, took a towel, and tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel that he had tied around his waist. —John 13:3-5 (GW)

“When you base your worth and identity on your relationship to Christ, you are freed from the expectations of others, and that allows you to really serve them best.” —Rick Warren

    5. Servants treat ministry as an opportunity, not an obligation
