Welcome

This week we continue our series by discussing the parable of the 10 Virgins. As you begin your study, share together about your relationship with lateness. Are you a person that is often early or late? How (and why) has that changed over the years?

Worship

Read Psalm 23. Pray for the internal life of each person. That they may be encountered by God and led to refreshing. Also, pray for the needs around you and the world.

Word

Read Matthew 25:1-13.
This parable was based on the customs of Jewish weddings at the time. Weddings took place in the evening and the exact time was kept secret. Prior to the wedding the groom would go to the bride’s house and lead her to synagogue, with the villagers following. The virgins in this story were waiting for the groom, and were probably bridesmaids who had the responsibility to prepare the bride to meet the groom.

  1. What made the “wise virgins” different than the “foolish virgins”?
  2. What is the point of this parable?
  3. Who are you most like in this parable and why?
  4. How do you feel about Jesus saying that the door of the kingdom gets closed for some?
  5. What does it mean to keep watch? Why is readiness so important in regard to the second coming of Christ?
  6. What does Jesus expect Christians to do with their lives in anticipation of His return?
  7. In what ways does Jesus’ second coming affect the ways you live? How are you staying prepared for His return?

Witness

What is one way God, though the Holy Spirit, has been nudging you to respond to him or serve him? How are you responding?
