Advent
Waiting…
Seerveld:
This Advent is a farce, a dumb show, if all it points towards is that which historically, irrevocably has already happened: Christ’s entrance into time. The Christmas Advent takes on biblical meaning only when believers see flickering, simultaneously, back and forth, past and future, the manger scene tableau and the grown Christ gloriously descending as the powerful head of an army of veteran angels. When Christ’s first coming is waited for as an exercise in waiting for his second coming, then Advent will have the right…focus. —Calvin Seerveld, Take Hold of God and Pull
People of God
Their story - my story
Remembering how we waited
So, that I can wait now

David
Deep love for God
Vs. 4-6, 8-10
Overcome with suffering
His own
Feel his torment, yearning, longing

Whatever feels great at first
My own sin: whatever
I can go my own way
Dismiss it as common and ignore the shame
Enemies
Not care about them, or if change what I care for
Pressure here, then go there
But over time it becomes lonely
Whatever means I’m not anchored, I am adrift
Christ
Advent season - Christ’s reign has arrived
He did not look at us and say, “Whatever”
He came after us
Christmas - I am pursued and loved by God
Life
Abundantly
Not whatever but
Sin
It matters because you matter
Took it on himself
Enemies
Truth, goodness, beauty - this matters
Loved
The whole world matters
Called to
Easy to see the hurt of the world - whatever?
Because I am so loved - forever loved
Sin, Brokenness around me
Burden to see and know that there is something so much better coming for the
Love and Longing go together
Special calling of the beloved
Yearn for the one who loves us
From whatever to forever

Meet again the One who kept his promise
Long for the day when he’ll keep it again
