Awakening - Week 3

God is Great. God is Good.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take. —Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

I’m not really a good person. If people really knew me and what I’ve done, they wouldn’t accept me. I still struggle and it’s because of who I am. I’m trying, but I really don’t measure up.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. —Romans 8:1-2 NLT

Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. —1 Corinthians 6:11 NLT

I’m doing pretty good. I’ve been going to church fairly regularly. Trying a little harder these days and actually reading the Bible more than in the past. I make sure I pray in the morning and at night before bed. My life is going well…fairly safe. I like where I am at right now. It would be nice if life could stay this way for a while.

But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. —Ephesians 4:20-24 NLT

This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. —2 Timothy 1:6-7 NLT

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. —Philippians 3:13-14 NLT

I’m watching the world around me and if I’m honest, it scares me. What’s going on could really affect me. I’ll just kind of stay to myself and hope everything works out. I don’t want to offend anyone, or cause a conversation that I’m not comfortable with, so I kind of keep my beliefs to myself.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. —2 Peter 2:9 NLT

I’ve been down lately. Life’s been hard. I know God is love and I know He cares, but I feel like He’s not noticing what I am going through. I keep hoping He’ll do something.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. —2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. —2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NLT

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. —Psalm 55:22 NLT

You don’t understand. What they did to me was wrong. It makes me angry….so angry. It’s not fair. I wish they…

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. —James 1:19-20 NLT

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. —Ephesians 4:31 NLT

We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. —1 John 4:19-21 NIV

My relationship with God is more of a private thing. Going to church is ok and good, but I really don’t need much more than that.

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. —Hebrews 10:23-25 NLT

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. —Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV

Dear God. I believe that you are a good God. I trust you and thank you for your love and care for me. Thank you for your Word. My desire is that you would work in me and equip me to accomplish Your will. Open my eyes and awaken me to your truth. In Jesus name, Amen.
