ΚΑΡΠΌΣ: Peace
Galatians 5
Matt Roe
Galatians 5:16-18
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
Galatians 5:22-24
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
The Greek word for peace = Eirene – a state of tranquility, security, prosperity, and/or safety.
Because of Jesus’ death on the cross and the surrendered life to the Holy Spirit, we can experience
Romans 5:1
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace (Eirene) with God through our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 57:19-21
“Peace, peace, to those far and near,” says the Lord. “And I will heal them.” But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud. “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”
The Hebrew word for peace is shalom – which means – safety, health, prosperity, and/or tranquility.
Romans 5:6-9
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him!
Ephesians 2:13-17
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace (Eirene), who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in His flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in Himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace (Eirene), and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which He put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace (Eirene) to you who were far away and peace (Eirene) to those who were near.
Because of Jesus’ death on the cross and the surrendered life to the Holy Spirit, we can experience the
Philippians 4:6-7
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace (Eirene) of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Because of Jesus’ death on the cross and the surrendered life to the Holy Spirit, we can experience
Ephesians 4:1-3
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (Eirene).
