The Light of Tabor

Now about eight days after these sayings, Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.
–Luke 9:28

Jesus is the Kingdom of God in person. – Origen (185–253)

For we did not follow cleverly devised fables when we made know to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. –2 Peter 1:16–18

God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.
–1 John 1:5

In the Logos was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.… The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. – John 1:4–5, 9

Do you wish to see the transfiguration of Jesus? Behold with me the Jesus of the Gospels. He was beheld by those who went up the lofty mountain to be apart with him. It is before those who go up that Jesus is transfigured, and not to those below. – Origen (185–253)

But truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God. Now about eight days after these sayings, Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. – Luke 9:27–28

Jesus is the kingdom of God in person. And Jesus is the one who now fills all things everywhere with himself. What happened to Jesus on Mount Tabor when he was transfigured in appearance from an ordinary Galilean Jew into his true appearance as the glorious Son of God, is what will happen in the eschaton to all of God’s creation.
