Matthew 4:1-11 ESV Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

Prioritize Your Spiritual Life

Matthew 4:2 ESV And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.

Matthew 6:33 ESV seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you

Do what Jesus did Prioritize Your Spiritual Life

Set aside time each day for spiritual activities such as prayer, reading scripture, or meditation.

Trust in God’s Timing

Matthew 4:3-4 ESV And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 6:25-26 ESV Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Like Jesus, wait on God’s Timing
This week, identify an area in your life where you feel impatient or anxious. Spend time in prayer, asking God to help you trust His timing and provision. Reflect on Matthew 6:25-34 to remind yourself of God’s care.

Stand Firm In Our Identity

Matthew 4:5-7 ESV “Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’

1 John 3:1 ESV See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.

Galatians 3:26 ESV for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.

Like Jesus know who you are
Write down three affirmations about your identity in Christ based on scripture. Place them somewhere visible and repeat them daily to reinforce your understanding of who you are in God.

Use Scripture Wisely

Matthew 4:8-10 ESV *Away with you, Satan!* For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.

Psalms 119:105 ESV Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path

Use Scripture Like Jesus

Commit to memorizing one Bible verse this week that addresses a personal challenge or temptation you face. Use this verse as a tool to counter negative thoughts or situations, just as Jesus did.
