SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

Warm Up Question: If you were king or queen for a day, what would you change?

HEAD: These questions help us examine the Word.
1. Before reading, who would the government leaders have been at this time in Rome? What were they like?
2. Read Romans 13:1-7. What are some of the responsibilities of government that we see in this passage? What are some of the responsibilities of the governed?
3. Is Paul teaching absolute submission? Why or why not?
4. What does a society look like when people’s default mode is submission to authority? What about when the default mode is rebellion?
5. How does the Gospel impact the way we deal with attitudes of rebellion towards authority?

HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.
6. Think of a time when you struggled with submitting to an authority figure. What helped you navigate that situation?
7. How can you submit or show honor to leaders that you disagree with?
