Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before me.”
A. There is One God
Isaiah 45:21b “there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me.”
1 Corinthians 8:4 “Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that ‘an idol has no real existence,’ and that ‘there is no God but one.’”
B. “Before Me”

1 Samuel 5:1-2 “When the Philistines captured the ark of God, they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon.

A. An Idol

Exodus 20:5b “for I the Lord your God am a jealous God”
A. The Warning
Exodus 20:5c “visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me”

Exodus 20:6 “but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”
