1. Listen to the Message

Today’s Scriptures:
Deuteronomy 8:11-20, Joshua 4:1-7

If we only stay focused on what God did last, we can miss out on what He wants to do next.

Remember where we came from - It keeps us

.

Remember who we are - It keeps us

.

Jesus did not come into this world to make bad people good; He came to make dead people alive.

Jesus took the blame for everything you’ve done wrong and then offers you the credit for everything He’s done right.

Remember why we are here - It keeps us

.

“The day you start dying is the day you stop dreaming.”

God’s Name is not “I WAS”, His Name is “I AM”

My Additional Notes:

2. Discuss in a Life Group

READ TOGETHER:

Deuteronomy 8:11 “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today; 12 otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them, 13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold multiply, and all that you have multiplies, 14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 15 He led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water; He brought water for you out of the rock of flint. 16 In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end. 17 Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’ 18 But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. 19 It shall come about if you ever forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish. 20 Like the nations that the Lord makes to perish before you, so you shall perish; because you would not listen to the voice of the Lord your God.

DISCUSS

In Deuteronomy 8, God warns the Israelites about the importance of remembering all God has done for them when they enter the promised land. In your words, descirbe how this applies to Coastal?

DISCUSS

Discuss why it is important to remember the past but not get stuck in it.

From the 3 main points given, discuss how “remembering” keep us humble, grateful, and faithful.

READ TOGETHER:

Joshua 4:1 Now when all the nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying, 2 “Take for yourselves twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, 3 and command them, saying, ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet are standing firm, and carry them over with you and lay them down in the lodging place where you will lodge tonight.’” 6 Let this be a sign among you, so that when your children ask later, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ 7 then you shall say to them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.’ So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.”

DISCUSS

Discuss how the Israelites moving into their promised land relates to Coastal and the next phase of our ministry.

Discuss how we, as a church, can properly prepare ourselves for what God wants to do next?

PRAY

Take some time to pray for each other. Any specific needs can be listed here.
