Week 5 - Pride and Humility
Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2
Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.
Proverbs 16:18
Pride leads to destruction; humility leads to honor.
Proverbs 18:12
Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.
Proverbs 29:23
True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.
Proverbs 22:4
3Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
Philippians 2:3-4
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
Psalm 10:4
16There are six things the Lord hates—no, seven things he detests: 17haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, 18a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, 19a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.
Proverbs 6:16-19
I hate pride and arrogance.
Proverbs 8:13
The Lord detests the proud.
Proverbs 16:5
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
James 4:6
“Go and visit the prophet,” the king of Aram told him. “I will send a letter of introduction for you to take to the king of Israel.” So Naaman started out, carrying as gifts 750 pounds of silver, 150 pounds of gold, and ten sets of clothing.
2 Kings 5:5
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you.
1 Peter 5:6
Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:]
Philippians 2:5
6Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor.
Philippians 2:6-9
23Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Psalm 139:23-24
