16. THE NEW HEAVENS AND THE NEW EARTH
“We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness” (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21,22).
2 Peter 3:13 [NLT] But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.
What is the New Heavens and the New Earth?
God’s Word promises in both the Old and New Testaments that the final remnants of the original curse that He placed on this world after mankind’s sin will finally be removed. (Isaiah 65:17; Revelation 21:1)
There will no longer be any curse.
Genesis 3 details the curse that came upon all people and creation.
Revelation 22:3
There will be no more sickness or death. (Revelation 21:4)
There will be a New Jerusalem. (Revelation 21:2)
The New Jerusalem will be large! (Revelation 21:15-17)
The New Jerusalem will have no need of light.
God’s glory will illuminate the New Jerusalem. (Revelation 21:23)
The New Jerusalem will have no temple. (Revelation 21:22)
What happens to the current heavens and earth?
The current heavens and earth will “pass away.” (2 Peter 3:10)
When will the New Heavens and the New Earth happen?
The New Heavens and the New Earth come into existence at the end of the Millennium and after the Final Judgment is completed.
Imagine a world where there is no sin, no death, no temptation by Satan!
This is the future of every single person who has committed their lives to Jesus!
Who will be in the New Heavens and the New Earth?
Only those who have chosen to commit their lives to Jesus. (Revelation 21:6-7)
APPLICATION FOR TODAY:
The New Heavens and The New Earth will be incredible.
We have never experienced a world without a curse.
No death, sickness, sorrow, sin!
