Big Idea: Everyone is a worshiper, and we all worship something.
But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. —John 4:23
Big Question: What does true worship look like?
Main Scripture: Isaiah 6:5-8
Then I said, “It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” —Isaiah 6:5
What does true worship look like?
1. True worship acknowledges who I am.
We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. —Isaiah 64:6a
Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. 7 He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.” —Isaiah 6:6-7
How God thinks of us is not only more important, but infinitely more important. Indeed, how we think of Him is of no importance except in so far as it is related to how He thinks of us. —C. S. Lewis
Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” —Isaiah 6:8a
What does true worship look like?
1. True worship acknowledges who I am.
2. True worship attunes to the voice of God.
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. —John 10:27
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. —Romans 12:1-2
What does true worship look like?
1. True worship acknowledges who I am.
2. True worship attunes to the voice of God.
3. True worship is available for anything.
I said, “Here I am. Send me.” —Isaiah 6:8b
Here I am = Hineni
The LORD says, “I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help. I was ready to be found, but no one was looking for me. I said, ‘Here I am, here I am!’ to a nation that did not call on my name.” —Isaiah 65:1
