(Romans 8: 5-6) Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
The Power Over Your Thoughts
(1 Samuel 30:3-4) When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.
(1 Samuel 30:6) David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
(Psalm 119:11) I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
(2 Corinthians 10:5) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
(Philippians 4:8) Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Confessions to Combat Negative Thinking
Cynicism:
With God’s power, I will push back against skepticism and pride that paints others in a negative light. Through discernment from Your Spirit, I will choose to believe the best about others and I will display grace, love and generosity to people who are made in Your image.
Negative Filtering:
Through you God, I can choose to see reality for how You see it. By your Spirit’s power, I can fight back against holding onto a critical spirit and step into my role confidently as a child of God who sees You working all things out for my good and Your glory.
Absolute Thinking:
By God’s truth and power, I can bridge the divide between those who think differently than me. By You alone God, I will forsake the pull to shut people out or write people off, but instead I will choose to love, accept, and make a difference in someone else’s life today.
Blaming:
By God’s power, I will accept that I am made in the image of the Almighty and that He is Sovereign over my life. I will remember by His grace, He has given me wisdom to make my own choices and I will do so in a way that honors Him. And although difficult times will come, I will believe that no matter what the enemy intends for evil, God will ultimately use it for good.
