MY NOTES
HE IS RISEN!
- Matthew 28:1-6
Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.
Easter is the most important and powerful occurrence in the history of the world. Christmas happened with the Cross in mind…Easter happened with you in mind!
- 1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
The Four Directions of the Cross
Wherever and whenever see a cross, you can be reminded at a glance of what the cross did FOR YOU.
FAMILY – The vertical beam points upward and reminds us that the cross caused for relationship with the Father to be restored.
Religion is the story of man’s forever frustrated attempt to make ourselves right with, approved by, and acceptable to God. Easter is the story of the Father’s forever fruitful, lasting, and undefeatable plan to reach out to us and bring us back into a relationship with Him.
Ephesians 1:5
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.Romans 4:25
He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.
MY NOTES
FOREVER: The downward beam reminds us that Jesus defeated death and the grave giving us eternal life.
John 11:25
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.2 Timothy 1:10
but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.Revelation 1:17-18
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.1 John 5:11
And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.1 Corinthians 15:57
But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
MY NOTES
FORGIVENESS: The horizontal beam points back to our past and reminds us that every sin was forgiven at the Cross.
Romans 3:22-23
We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.1 John 1:8
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.Mark 2:17
When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good, He came to made dead people ALIVE.
He came to make hurting people WHOLE.
He came to make lonely people part of a family.
He came to make sinful people completely forgiven!
We aren’t saved by Christian behavior we are saved by believing in the cross of Christ.
- 1 Peter 2:24
He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.
FAITH FOR THE FUTURE – The horizontal beam points forward and encourages us that God saved us to connect us to a faith-filled future.
MY NOTES
2 Timothy 1:9
He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.Ephesians 1:19-20
I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.Romans 6:4-5
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.Matthew 28:8
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
God’s writing a story in your life and by design. God’s plan for forgiving us, saving us, and redeeming us back to Him involved a dramatic story that we can draw hope from. The story of Easter brings faith to us because it is relatable to us.
MY NOTES
This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came His way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step. He never did one thing wrong, not once said anything amiss. They called Him every name in the book and He said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right. He used His servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing. You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going. Now you’re named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls.
Friday – The Cross
The journey to redemption involved a painful process for Jesus. ON this side of eternity, we are going to go through some painful moments in life! We experience loss, rejection, disappointments, delay, or defeat. When you experience the pain of life – understand the God we serve knows exactly what it feels like and then some.
Matthew 26:37-39
He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”Hebrews 12:2
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
MY NOTES
Don’t get stuck in a painful or discouraging chapter of your story!
Saturday – The tomb of defeat, disappointment, doubt, and delay.
- Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
When we keep seeking and serving God through the pain and the process of the test, we get to see the testimony – the Sunday of the story.
Sunday – The Resurrection – Death and Sin Defeated
The crucifixion was always a set up for the resurrection. Your setback is a set up for God to show up. Even in resurrection Jesus was relatable to us.
- John 20:24-28
Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
You mean the resurrected Jesus still had scars?!?
Even after the Resurrection, the God of Heaven was still relating to you and me.
The places where we have wounds, once healed, can be the places God uses the most in our lives to help others experience God and be healed in their own lives.
