There are 4 landing spots in our faith journey we tend to get stuck in.
Finding your way through those are vital to your continued growth in Christ.
TODAY:
Part 2 – Decided…but not following
MAIN IDEA:
If your decision to follow Christ has not changed how you live your life…you are stuck.
To move from this level, you need to stop sitting and thinking and start obeying and doing.
See how following was the result of believing with the disciples:
Luke 5:1-11 - One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. NIV
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” NIV
6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” NIV
9b…Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. NIV
MAIN IDEA:
If your decision to follow Christ has not changed how you live your life…you are stuck.
To move from this level, you need to stop sitting and thinking and start obeying and doing.
2 IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS LEVEL
1. When you begin doing the works of Christ…always remember salvation is not given to you by your good works…It is an undeserved gift from Jesus.
I wonder how the thief on the cross would have answered when asked why he was in heaven?
Romans Road:
Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God NIV
Romans 3:10 - “There is no one righteous, not even one NIV
Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. NIV
Romans 6:23 - 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. NIV
Romans 10:9-10 - 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. NIV
2. While salvation is not a result of your works …Your works should be a result of your salvation if the experience was genuine.
James 2:14-26 - 14 What use is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith, but he has no works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? 17 In the same way, faith also, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. 18 But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” 19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. 20 But are you willing to acknowledge, you foolish person, that faith without works is useless? NASB
Matthew 16:24-25 - 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. NLT
3 action steps to get unstuck from this level:
1. Walk through EVERY AREA of your life and ask Jesus to show you what needs to change in that area to look more like Him.
2. Commit to practicing the disciplines of following Jesus:
- Read your bible
- Worship
- Prayer
- Avoiding sin
- Embracing righteousness
3. Get involved with other disciples
- You are who your friends are…
- Iron sharpens iron

Closing Challenge:
What are areas in your faith that you believe in your head, but they haven’t transcended to your heart?
What needs to change for you to be able to say you are “following Jesus” in that area?
