Discuss:
Can you think of a time when you encountered someone who spoke or acted with undeniable authority? How did it make you feel, and how did you respond?


What stood out about Jesus’ teaching in the synagogue compared to the scribes (vv. 21-22)? Why were the people astonished?


How did the unclean spirit react to Jesus, and what does this tell us about Jesus’ authority over the spiritual realm (vv. 23-28)?


What does Jesus’ healing of Simon’s mother-in-law and the sick people who came to Him reveal about His compassion and power (vv. 29-34)?

Apply:
Jesus’ words still carry authority today—are there any areas of His teaching that you find difficult to submit to? Why?


Choose one specific teaching of Jesus that you struggle to fully obey and take intentional steps to submit to His authority in that area.


Do you find yourself living in fear or struggling with spiritual battles? How does Jesus’ authority over demons encourage you?


How can you approach Jesus for healing—whether physically or spiritually—trusting in His timing and plan?

Commit:
Identify one way the enemy may be influencing your thoughts, fears, or actions. Commit to praying daily for strength and trusting in Jesus’ power over spiritual forces.


Further Study: Read Matthew 8:5-13 (the faith of the centurion). How does this passage further confirm Jesus’ authority, and how does it challenge our response to Him?


Read Colossians 1:15-20. How does this passage describe Jesus’ supremacy and authority over all things? What implications does this have for your daily life?
