For The Joy Set Before Him
March 21, 2024

Jas 1:2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
Jas 1:3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
Jas 1:4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
Jas 1:5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. —.

  • Joy in KNOWING that your endurance is growing.

1. For The Set Before Him.

Heb 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Heb 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Heb 12:3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. —.

  • Kingdom Mindset looks ahead, not backward.

2. Jesus walked in the Joy of His Father’s .

The Baptism of Jesus
Mat 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.
Mat 3:14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”
Mat 3:15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
Mat 3:16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.
Mat 3:17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

The Transfiguration
Mat 17:1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;
Mat 17:2 and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
Mat 17:3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
Mat 17:4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Mat 17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
Mat 17:6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.

Christ’s Glory and the Prophetic Word
2Pe 1:16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
2Pe 1:17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
2Pe 1:18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
2Pe 1:19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
2Pe 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,
2Pe 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. —.

3. The pain in the is better than the of “easy street”.

  • It is impossible to have joy without an eternal perspective.
  • Happiness is situational, and joy is supernatural (Joy Unspeakable)
  • The purpose is a platform for Joy.

Gal 6:9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
Gal 6:10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. NLT

Gal 6:9 Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in. AMP
Gal 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. NKJV
Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. KJV —.

  • The name “Gethsemane,” used only in the Gospels of Matthew (26:36) and Mark (14:32), means “oil press,”

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

Mat 26:36 Then Jesus led his disciples to an orchard called “The Oil Press.” He told them, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” TPT —.

  • The Oil that comes from the pressing is the Oil of Joy.

2Co 6:9 We are ignored, even though we are well known. We live close to death, but we are still alive. We have been beaten, but we have not been killed.
2Co 6:10 Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.
