Series: Mission Sunday
Title: Mission, Not Maintenance
Passage: Acts 1:5-8; Matthew 28:18-20
Speaker: Kevin Ingram (Manhattan Christian College)
Use the following questions and directions based on today’s sermon as a starting point for spiritual discussions with your family or a small group of Christian friends this week.
Fellowship—Relationship with a Purpose
- What was the best thing about your Easter weekend? How did you celebrate?
Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters
Have you ever been part of an organization that has a mission statement? If so, do you remember it? Why or why not?
Explain why it is important to communicate the purpose of an organization to its members.
What is the mission of the church (in general)? See Matthew 28:18-20.
In practice, do you think of the church more as a business enterprise, a philosophical idea, a cultural identity, or a relational family? How does that view impact the way you engage in church life?
The mission of TCC is: “TCC Exists for HIM. Honoring Jesus, Investing in people, Making a difference.” How does this statement compare to the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20? Where do they align?
How do you personally contribute to the mission of TCC? Rate your actions.
What steps have you taken to honor Jesus in the past week?
How have you invested in people – yourself or others – lately?
How have you made a difference recently? After intentionally answering those questions, would you still rate your actions the same as you did a few questions ago? Why or why not?
Prayer – Taking Your Thoughts to God
Pray for all our church family members to engage in the mission of the church.
Pray for the ministry of Manhattan Christian College as they train leaders to serve the local church and impact the world with the good news of Jesus.
