Message Notes
“When you know the truth, the truth will set you free!” —John 8:32
Lie – If people really knew me, they wouldn’t really like me.
“Stronghold - ‘A stronghold is a mind-set that accepts a situation or a behavior as unchangeable, even though that situation is contrary to the will and the Word of God.’” —Tony Evans
“No matter how strong someone looks on the outside, every person walking the planet has this deeply embedded fear that haunts them day by day. If anyone really knew you, the fear whispers, they’d leave you.” —Curt Thompson
Truth - We were created to live known and loved.
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” —Colossians 3:1-2
We have to choose community.
“We need to be able to seek out wisdom and insight when our own brains can’t sort out the answers, can’t muster the willpower, can’t find the strength, can’t remember how to pray. Relationships like that take time, effort, energy to cultivate, but they shift everything.” —Jennie Allen
“Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” —Colossians 3:10-11
“Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.” —Colossians 3:11
We have to choose to extend grace.
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” —Colossians 3:12-14
We have to choose to be vulnerable
“Vulnerability is uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure.” —Brene Brown
“Vulnerability is at the core, the heart, the center, of meaningful human experiences.” —Brene Brown
Vulnerable with God
Vulnerable with one another
Vulnerable to risk and failure.
“Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our most accurate measure of courage.” —Brene Brown
“For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” —Colossians 2:9-10
