Isaiah 12:1-6

12:1 | The entire history of Israel can be described as a series of events that have induced God’s anger and His subsequent response. Human sin and divine anger do not shut off all communication; prayer and repentance can actually call forth divine compassion.

12:2 | God’s restored people will praise Him, just as the Israelites of Moses’ day and after God delivered them from the Egyptian army (Ex. 15:2).

12:3 | Water is a rich symbol of salvation (John 4:10-14; 7:37-38), especially to people who lived in the dry land of Palestine. To draw from the wells means to continue to share in the good life that God has provided. This verse became a common saying among the Jews and led to a water-drawing ceremony in Jerusalem.
