Devotional Guide for December 30, 2024 - January 4, 2025

Message Recap:

As we reflect on the past year and look forward to the new one, we’re challenged to ‘Believe the Impossible.’ This powerful message draws from Ephesians 3, reminding us that God can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine. We’re encouraged to develop a deeper theology of prayer and time, understanding that God’s timing often differs from our own. The story of Joshua and Jericho illustrates how faith and obedience can bring down seemingly insurmountable walls. Similarly, the disciples’ experience in Acts 1-2 shows how patient waiting and prayer can lead to sudden, transformative encounters with God. These biblical accounts inspire us to pray boldly, trust in God’s timing, and expect the unexpected in our own faith journeys.

Devotional Guide:

Day 1: Believing the Impossible — Ephesians 3:14-21
Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians reminds us of God’s immeasurable power and love. As we face challenges in our lives, it’s easy to limit our expectations based on our own abilities. However, God invites us to believe in the impossible. Reflect on areas in your life where you may be putting limits on what God can do. How might your prayers and actions change if you truly believed that God can do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”?

Today, challenge yourself to pray boldly, asking God for things that seem impossible, trusting in His power and love.

Day 2: Being the Church — Acts 2:42-47

The early church provides a powerful model of what it means to truly be the body of Christ. They were devoted to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. Their lives were marked by generosity, unity, and joy. As you read this passage, consider how your own life reflects these qualities. Are you actively participating in the life of your church community? How can you contribute to creating an environment where people experience God’s love and presence?

Today, commit to one specific action that will help you engage more deeply with your church family.

Day 3: Building Community — 1 John 1:5-9, James 5:13-16
James emphasizes the importance of authentic relationships within the Christian community. He encourages us to share our joys, sorrows, and struggles with one another. This level of vulnerability can be intimidating, but it’s essential for true healing and growth. Think about the relationships in your life. Do you have people with whom you can be completely honest about your spiritual journey? If not, pray for God to bring such relationships into your life. If you do, consider how you can deepen those connections.

Today, reach out to someone in your community and share something you’re struggling with, or offer to listen to their concerns.

Day 4: Blessing the City — Jeremiah 29:1-14

God’s instructions to the exiles in Babylon challenge our perspective on how we engage with our communities. Rather than withdrawing or resisting, God calls His people to actively seek the welfare of the city where they live. This requires a posture of love and service, even towards those who may seem like enemies. Reflect on your attitude towards your community. Are you actively seeking its prosperity? How can you be a blessing to those around you, regardless of their beliefs or background?

Today, pray for your city and look for one practical way to contribute to its wellbeing.

Day 5: Creating Spaces for Encountering Jesus — Luke 19:1-10

The story of Zacchaeus reminds us that Jesus seeks out opportunities to connect with people, often in unexpected ways. As followers of Christ, we’re called to create spaces where others can experience His love and grace. This might mean opening our homes, engaging in meaningful conversations, or simply being present with those who are hurting. Think about the spaces in your life - your home, workplace, or social circles. How can you make these places more conducive to encountering Jesus?

Today, ask God to show you opportunities to create welcoming spaces where others can experience His presence through you.
