1 - A People of Faith: Stretching for the
Hebrews 11:1, 8–10
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen… By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going… for he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
History of True North Church/Fairbanks First Assembly
Aug. 1940 — Charles and Emma Hershey had their first meeting at 315 4th Ave. and their home.
Feb. 1941 - They moved to 825 1st Ave. where they held church in the Odd Fellows Hall.
Dec. 1944 - They had the very first church service in their new building on 333 3rd Ave.
Nov. 1963 - The lot the church was built on was sold to North Wood building company. The log building was then sent to Nenana, and launched what is now our church venue in Nenana.
1963 - The church began meeting downtown on fourth Avenue in the Lutheran Church.
Sept. 1965 - We purchased the land here on Airport Way which was 2829 Ruby Ave. at the time.
1976 - We continued to grow and added the existing sanctuary that we’re in now to the building.
1990 - The administrative offices were added.
Dec. 2019 - We purchased the first two, of our five real estate transactions on College Road.
2022 - We completed the initial ground improvements and built the foundation for our new building.
2023 - We errected our steel super structure.
It’s now 2025… and we are moving in full force toward finishing our building for Easter 2026!
