Day 354 - The Gift of Evangelists
Emily Green
“Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.” - Ephesians 4:11-12 NLT
Included in the list of “gifts” Christ gives to His church are evangelists. The word “evangelist” represents a “bringer of good tidings.” Evangelism is the act of sharing good news with others! And while we know from the first few days of this week’s devotional that evangelism is sharing about Jesus, Ephesians 4:12 reveals a new aspect of evangelism.
As evangelists, our responsibility is to “equip God’s people to do His work and build up the church.” While some people are called to be evangelists, all of us, as believers in Jesus, are responsible for evangelizing. It is our responsibility to bring good news, not just to talk about Jesus, but to equip people with His Word. Evangelism is sharing the good news of the Gospel and equipping others to share the Gospel with others.
Evangelism is a gift, and it is one that we must share with the world!
Next Steps
- Think about it: Do I consider myself an evangelist? Why or why not?
- Action Step: Identify someone you have shared the Gospel with in the past. Think of a way to equip them to share the Gospel with others.
