Our are Not for Sale

A Marriage:

1. Godly Marriage can only be between

Genesis 2:20–25 (NASB95)
20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.
21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.
22 The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.
23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.
And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Two decisions that every marriage must make:

1. A decision to never turn your

from your spouse

2. A decision to never turn your

from your spouse

Hebrews 13:4–5 (NASB95)
4 Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
5 Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,”

a: leave to exist b: forsake c: cease d: close your heart

ἀνίημι aniēmi

A Covenant is this:

I am permanently

regardless of what

Ephesians 5:25–32 (NASB95)
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;
29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,

30 because we are members of His body.
31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.

The Goal of a Covenant is this:

I

to meet my spouses needs regardless of whether I get my needs met.

A Woman needs

- Women feel secure when they have a selfless, sacrificial husband.
- Women feel insecure when they have a selfish, detached husband.

A Man Needs

- Do you think I am a good man?
- Do you see the good in me?

A Selfish Husband and a Dishonoring Wife will wound each other!
