Series: Romans – Grasping The Gospel
Sermon Title: Part 51 – The Only Good Debt
Scripture: Romans 13:8-10
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil

Questions:

  1. There are some 613 laws found in the Old Testament. Do you know them all from memory? If you were required to always obey 613 laws, how are you doing?

  2. If that list of 613 laws were trimmed down to just 1, would that motivate you to work to obey that one law?

  3. Why is loving one another repeated so many times in the book of Romans?

  4. In writing to the believers in Rome, there is only one debt that we should have to love one another and it is how we fulfill the law. How does knowing this fact—that the Lord wants us to focus on loving others—encourage you to redouble your efforts to follow and obey the Lord?

  5. In your opinion, what are some of the benefits and advantages to you and to others when you make loving others your top priority?

  6. In Matthew 22:34-40 and Mark 12:28-31, Jesus adds to the commandment to love one another a great commandment that is like it: to love the Lord your God. In what four ways does Jesus say we are to love the Lord our God?

  7. How would you explain the commandment to love others fulfilling all of the other laws? What is one tangible step you can take—that you aren’t already doing—to fulfill this commandment?
