Acts 4:31; Luke 22:31-34
Intro: Jesus is our Intercessor. Meaning, He prays for us. What a joy to know the Lord loves us enough to pray for us.
Let’s establish two things…
A. Peter Was A Saved Man
Peter had walked with the Lord for 3 1/2 years. He had been part of a miracle working ministry. Peter had preached the gospel. No doubt, he was saved.
B. Peter Was A Sinful Man
He did deny the Lord. He did say three times, “I do not know Him.” Failing God and falling away from God are two different issues.
1 John 1:8
3 Reason Peter Failed The Lord
1. Pride
Luke 22:31, 33
Peter had allowed pride to enter his heart. Maybe he felt elevated as a Disciple of Christ. Maybe he felt he was more of a leader than follower.
Proverbs 16:18
2. Prayerlessness
Luke 22:46
When Jesus needed His inner circle to help Him pray, you find Peter, James & John sleeping. They were not doing what they needed to be doing for the Lord.
By the way, churches fall because of prayerlessness too.
3. People
Luke 22:55
He was with the wrong crowd. He was with the crowd that came and took Jesus prisoner.
Proverbs 13:20; Psalm 1:1
Be careful who you gravitate around. It’s important WHO is in your life.
