EVERYONE CHANGES but not EVERYONE gets BETTER!
The phrase “getting in the dust of the rabbi” is a way of saying that CHANGE is total immersion in the rabbi’s life, teachings, and way of being in the world.
16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
—Mark 1:16,17 NIV
The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God…
—Mark 1:1 NIV)
Change is introduced to the world and Jesus is made known.
4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
—Mark 1:4,7-8 NIV
Change is only as credible as whose hands it is in.
8 Lead out those who have eyes but are blind,
who have ears but are deaf.
9 All the nations gather together
and the peoples assemble.
Which of their gods foretold this
and proclaimed to us the former things?
Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right,
so that others may hear and say, “It is true.”
10 “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
“and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor will there be one after me.
11 I, even I, am the Lord,
and apart from me there is no savior.
12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed—
I, and not some foreign god among you.
You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God.
13 Yes, and from ancient days I am he.
No one can deliver out of my hand.
When I act, who can reverse it?”
—Isaiah 43:8-13 NIV
9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
—Mark 1:9-11 NIV
Change begins at the point of His voice in my life.
The greatest threat to our world is the altering of the one thing that brings life change to others.
Before Jesus did one recorded act/one miracle/one healing, He already received the acceptance, affection, and affirmation of heaven.
