Thoughts for the Week
How do we work on developing our faith? I heard a doctor say one
time that the reason it is called “practicing medicine” is because no
one ever learns everything or does everything perfectly. The same is
true of our faith life. We are continually learning, and we are
continually developing into the person that God has called us to be. As
we grow in our faith, knowledge, and love of the Lord, we will be
changed. This is seen in the opening of Paul’s second letter to
Timothy. The purpose of the letter is similar to the first, which is to
prepare the church for growth and to carry on the mission of Christ.
As we carry on the mission of Christ, what are some aspects of faith in
which we have neglected our own personal growth? Are we studying
to better understand God? Are we praying to grow closer in our
relationship and declare our dependence on God? Are we generously
giving of our time, talent, and treasure to the work of God? Are we
loving our neighbor as ourselves? Are we allowing our fear of
something to overwhelm our faith? Take time this week to reflect on
your own faith. Share your reflections with a friend and let them help
you praise God for your strengths and petition God in your weakness.
