Unity of the Spirit
Pastor Kevin York
March 3, 2025

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. —Ephesians 4:1-6 ESV

Let’s Talk About It
The apostle Paul writes to the Ephesian church and encourages them to live lives that reflect the value of what Christ did for them. Our gratitude for God’s calling should lead us to live with greater humility, gentleness, love, patience, and unity.

Ephesians 4:1-6

Discussion questions

  • Which part of the message impacted or challenged you?

  • Read Ephesians 4:1-6. What does it look like to live a life that reflects the value of being called? How would this be reflected in your attitudes, actions, behavior, or priorities?

  • How can you demonstrate humility, gentleness and patience in a difficult situation or relationship right now?

  • Paul encourages the Ephesian church to bear with one another in love. What does that mean? How can you bear with others in love while maintaining healthy boundaries and sometimes saying “no” without feeling guilty?

  • Paul emphasizes unity in the Spirit. What practical ways can we maintain unity within our church, family, or relationships?

  • Read Ephesians 4:6. Where do you need to surrender control and trust God more fully as your “Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all”?

  • What is one thing you can do this week to grow in the essential qualities of humility, gentleness, patience, love, and unity that Paul said Christians should possess?

Here’s My Prayer
Thank You for calling me to walk in a way that reflects Your love and grace. Help me to live with humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with others in love. Fill my heart with a desire to pursue unity, just as You have united us through Your Holy Spirit. Remind me that we are one body, serving one Lord, with one faith and one hope in You. Guide me to be a peacemaker, to seek reconciliation where there is division, and to love others as You have loved me. May my life reflect Your truth and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
