1. The Law is Rooted in

5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. —Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT)

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” —Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT)

3. The Law Redirects to

24 Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. —Galatians 3:24 (NLT)

Two Essential Ways The Law Benefits Us:

b. It Steers Us To The

2 Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy. —Leviticus 19:2 (NLT)

6 For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love. —Galatians 5:6 (NLT)

Conclusion

3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit. —Romans 8:3-4 (NLT)

  2. What’s that one area where I might be relying on self-righteousness or comparing myself to others.
  3. Share my challenges with someone trusted who can help me in my pursuit of spiritual maturity.
