Sermon: Money
Scripture: Malachi 3:6-12
Summary: Money has been a big deal for humanity since the beginning. Everyone has a relationship with it. God is actively interested in the relationship we have with money because of the powerful tendency for it to become the god we centre our lives on. God calls us to be generous with our money and trust in his generosity to provide everything we need and more.
For Reflection and Discussion
Read Scripture: Malachi 3:6-12
- What is the nature of the relationship you have with money?
- If someone looked at your bank account, what conclusions could they draw about what you centre your life on?
- Read Mark 12:41. What do you think about what Jesus did here?
- Which side of the diagram below are you sitting on at the moment? Why?
- What is your view on tithes and offerings? Can you defend it from scripture?
- What do you think about these stats regarding global income levels?
- Average global personal income is $9,733 per year. Average global household income is $12,235 per year. Making over $100,000 puts you in the top 10% of global earners, while making over $1 million puts you in the top 1%.
- Read v10-11. How is God calling you to test him with your finances?
- How much do you need to give away for money to not be a problem in your relationship with God?
