The kingdom of God has arrived unnoticed but will one day appear for all to see.

Mark 4:26–34

vv. 26–29—Jesus shares another parable with the crowd at large.

—The sower is unnamed and unaware. He sows the seed and then goes on with his life.
—The seed holds the power of life—it sprouts and grows.
—The earth produces fruit of the earth (See Genesis 1:11–13)
—When the grain is ripe, the harvest is ready.
—The word for “He puts in the sickle (ESV)” literally reads, “Sends out the sickle.”

vv. 30–34—Jesus shares a third parable.

—The mustard seed is not the smallest seed in the world, but the smallest known seed to the audience. It was about the size of a grain of sand.
—Mustard plants can grow upwards to ten feet tall, allowing birds to come and nest in their branches.
—Mustard plants are an invasive species that can take over a garden.
