Acts 20:35 / CSB, “… Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

1. Be devoted to pure motives
Matthew 6:1 / ESV, “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

Psalm 26:2. / NLT, “Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart.”

Philippians 1:17 / NLT, “Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me.”

2. the strings of kindness
Matthew 6:2-4a / ESV, ““Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret.”

Proverbs 11: 17 / NLT “Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you.”

Ephesians 4:32 / ESV, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

3. God’s recognition and reward
Matthew 6:4b / ESV, “And your Father who sees in secret will
reward you.”

Luke 6:35a / NLT, ““Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great…”

Revelation 22:12 / NLT, “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds.”
