Jesus Over All: Walking Through Colosians
July 20, 2025

Awesummer Offering - August 3rd

THIS WEEK’S POWER VERSE:
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Colossians 1:15

“Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” John 14:9

“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.” Hebrews 1:3

*If you want your life to stay

, put Jesus .…the firstborn over all creation.

For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Colossians 1:15-17

And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. Colossians 1:18

For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, Colossians 1:19

“Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:3

…and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross. Colossians 1:20

Is Jesus first place in every part of my life?

CONNECTION GROUP DISCUSSION:

Opening Question:
Share a time when you were filled with awe and wonder over a part of God’s creation.

Key Takeaways:
1. Jesus is the exact image of the invisible God.
2. Jesus created and sustains all things.
3. Jesus is the head of the church.
4. Through Jesus, God reconciles all things to Himself.

Discussion Questions:

  1. “If you want to see God, get to know Jesus.” How does this idea impact your understanding of who Jesus is?

  2. “Jesus isn’t just part of the story, He is writing the story.” How does this perspective change the way you see your life and the world around you?

  3. “If you have everything, but you don’t have Jesus, you’ve got nothing. And if you have Jesus and nothing else, you’ve got everything!” Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

  4. Jesus holds everything together, even at the cellular level. How does this truth encourage you in your daily life?

  5. Put Jesus first in whatever area of life you want to be blessed (money, relationships, health). In which area do you find it most challenging to put Jesus first? Why?

  6. How does understanding Jesus as the head of the church influence your involvement and attitude towards your church?

  7. All of creation worships Jesus. How can we join in this cosmic worship in our everyday lives?

Practical Applications:

  1. Spend time this week reading one of the Gospels to get to know Jesus better.

  2. Identify one area of your life where you need to put Jesus first. Make a specific plan to do so this week.

  3. Take a nature walk and intentionally praise God for His creation, joining in the “chorus” of worship.

  4. Discern which areas of your life you need peace this week. Spend time in prayer, focusing on the cross and Jesus’ reconciling work.

  5. Write down the question “Is Jesus in first place in every part of my life?” Put it somewhere where you’ll see it daily as a reminder.

Closing Prayer:
Thank Jesus for His supremacy over all creation and ask for His help in keeping Him first in every area of your lives.
