Sermon Summary

Sermon Summary: In this sermon, Oh Worship the King, we continue the heavenly vision from Revelation 4 and witness an awe-inspiring moment of worship in Revelation 5. The focus is on the worthiness of Christ, the Lamb who was slain, to open the divine scroll and execute God’s sovereign plan.

Three compelling reasons why Christ deserves our worship are highlighted:

  1. Jesus alone is worthy to fulfill God’s plan (Revelation 5:1-5).
  2. Jesus is the Lamb who redeemed us from sin (Revelation 5:6-10).
  3. Jesus is exalted as Lord over all creation (Revelation 5:11-14).

The passage emphasizes that worship is not just an action but a participation in an eternal reality. All of creation bows before Christ, declaring, “Worthy is the Lamb!” We are invited to do the same—not just on Sundays, but in every moment of our lives.

Verse of the Week

Revelation 5:9 (ESV)
9 “Worthy are You to take the scroll and to open its seals, for You were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

Going Deeper

This section of the Pulpit Curriculum is meant to support Bible reflection, and encourage readers to come away with a high view of Scripture.

Review: Revelation 5:1-14

1. What does the sealed scroll in Revelation 5:1 represent, and why was no one found worthy to open it?

2. Why does John first hear about a Lion but then see a Lamb? What does this reveal about Christ’s identity?

3. In what ways does the imagery of the slain Lamb challenge worldly views of power and victory?

4. How does this passage connect with Philippians 2:9-11 , where “every knee will bow” before Christ?

5. What does the response of the 24 elders and myriads of angels teach us about worship? How should this shape our own worship?

Assess Your Life

The following questions are meant to encourage personal reflection and identify areas for spiritual growth in your relationship with God. Ask yourself the questions, respond honestly, write down your responses, and then prayerfully seek God’s conviction and guidance to move forward to repentance and restoration. In discussions with your friends and family, or in your Small Group, be open to sharing your responses with others in a spirit of accountability and transparency.

1. Do I truly recognize Christ as the center of my life?

2. How do I respond to God’s sovereignty in difficult times?

3. Is my worship passionate and sincere or merely routine?

4. Do I live as someone who has been redeemed by the Lamb?

5. In what ways do I need to surrender more fully to Christ’s Lordship?

Application

A key objective of this Pulpit Curriculum is taking God’s truth as exposed in the sermon and helping people apply that truth in practical and intentional ways to plot a course toward obedience and transformation. This section is intended to achieve that objective.

• How will I make daily worship a priority in my life?

• What steps will I take to grow in my understanding of Christ’s worthiness?

• What “crowns” am I still holding onto that I need to surrender?

• How can I join the unceasing worship of heaven in my daily life?

How will I live each day as an act of worship?

o Each morning, can I ask myself: “How can I worship Jesus today in my thoughts, words, and actions?”

o Each evening, will I reflect on and thank God for moments where I saw His worthiness displayed in my life?

I will ask

to hold me accountable in this.
