Prayer for the Tenebra People and the Bible Translation Project

Day Fourteen

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
—Isaiah 9:2

The Tenebra people (a pseudonym used for the security of those working among this people group) are known as “dark people.” They’ve historically lived in the dark corners of South Indian forests, but in recent years they’ve been displaced and have migrated to coastal areas. The Tenebra people still dwell in spiritual darkness, though, with only 0.31% of Christians in their people group. Through our partnership with IllumiNations and Pioneer Bible Translators, we have funded the translation of the New Testament into their heart language. We pray that as the Tenebra have access to the Word, they will see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ (2 Cor. 4:4).

Jesus, we thank you that the light of the gospel of your glory has shone in our hearts. We thank you, Spirit, for opening our eyes to behold Jesus. We pray now for the Tenebra people—a people dwelling in a land of deep spiritual darkness—and we pray that the light of the gospel would shine there. We pray for open doors for those working to reach the Tenebra people, and we pray for the translation work to be clear and effective. Please soften the hearts of the Tenebra people to receive your Word with joy and respond in repentance and faith. Give us a deep desire to worship alongside our Tenebra brothers and sisters, crying “Worthy is the Lamb!” Amen.

As you go through your day:
1. Pray for New Testament translation work to continue without interruptions.
2. Pray that the gospel bears fruit among unbelieving Tenebra people who are working with the translators.
3. Pray for open doors and inroads for indigenous workers to reach the Tenebra people with the gospel.
4. Ask the Lord to give the people of Providence deep love for the Tenebra people and a dedication to pray for them.
